This exhibition celebratoing the 50th anniversary of Wakayama’s Museum of Modern Art comprises a selection of artwork that exemplifies the best of its permanent collection of more than 10,000 pieces that date from the Meiji Period (1868-1912) to today. The collection includes many notable Japanese woodprints and is one of the most extensive print collections in Japan. The exhibition highlights artists native to both Wakayama and Kansai. Notable artists featured include Masanari Murai, a pioneer of abstract art in the 1930s, and Eitaro Ishigaki, a native of Wakayama, who flourished as a painter and muralist in 1930s America.
