Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art

Early Netherlandish master Hieronymus Bosch depicted fantastical dream worlds featuring bizarre creatures and thematic imagery related to heaven, hell, and the multifaceted experiences of humanity. He is perhaps best known for his ambitious triptych titled, The Garden of Earthly Delights, on display at the Museo del Prado since 1939. Bosch’s dazzling approach to painting, both whimsical and disturbing in nature, has influenced European artists for hundreds of years, resulting in the unique works of Pieter Bruegel the Elder, René Magritte, and Jan Fabre, among others. The Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art presents a collection of approximately 120 pieces of visionary Belgian works by Bosch and the artists he inspired, dating back to the 15th century, including paintings, sculptures, prints, and more.
