One of several projects by singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Adam Young, Owl City began in 2007 and grew with a large following via MySpace before signing with Universal Republic Records a year later in 2008.
Owl City’s breakthrough came with the 2009 album Ocean Eyes featuring the single Fireflies. Usually labelled as electronic music, Owl City cites influences from disco, European electronic, as well as instrumental drone, ambient, and post-rock. In June of this year, Owl City released a new 18-track album Cinematic, the group’s sixth album and the first in three years. About the album, Adam Young states on his website, “I found myself writing about the magic of life…the amazing people I’ve met and the places that I’ve seen. Those songs make up my new 18-track album titled Cinematic, because just like the movies, life is full of magic.”
