Gallerie De Room 702
Anne Valérie Dupond is a textile sculptor based in Besançon, France who stitches together representations of humans, beasts, and objects from recovered fabrics with needle and thread. Many of these sculptures are formed in replication of the renowned Baroque portrait busts made popular by the Roman artists of the 17th and 18th centuries. Dupond’s works exude a charming sense of whimsy atop an undercurrent of darkness, characterized through a sense of roughness that is deliberate and highlighted by her extensive technical skill. Though her works have appeared around the world time and again, this solo exhibition marks Dupond’s first in Japan. Don’t miss this selection of pieces from one of France’s most unique and original up-and-coming artists.
