Koyasan, Wakayama

申し訳ありません、このコンテンツはただ今 アメリカ英語 のみです。

On June 15th, many temples celebrate the birth of Kukai (Kobo-Daishi), the Buddhist monk who established Shingon Buddhism in Japan. Kukai also founded Koyasan, the large temple settlement residing on Mount Koya that houses many temples, pagodas, and other structures. The festival frequently uses aoba or green foliage to represent the abundance of flora and fauna during this season. A Buddhist memorial service will take place from 9am. Later at noon, a procession lead by an altar hanamido that carries the newborn Buddha will tour around the neighborhood followed by music and dance performances by the local community.
