Abeno Harukas Art Museum

Kitano Tsunetomi (1880–1947) was a painter and printmaker who dominated Osaka’s early 20th-century art scene with unique and eye-catching works that, much like Japanese society itself, unify traditional and modern elements to make a cohesive impression. Kitano began his career as an illustrator for a local newspaper and went on to establish an art school and publishing firm in 1924. As an artist, he focused on motifs involving beautiful women, or bijin-ga, from the realms of fashion and entertainment, striving to delve through superficiality in order to reveal more subtle and genuine expressions of feeling. The Abeno Harukas Art Museum invites art fans to attend this retrospective exhibition in celebration of Kitano’s prolific works, 70 years after his death.
