Whether you prefer to eat it raw or cooked, the Japanese spiny lobster, or Ise ebi, is a delicacy in Japan that does not disappoint. They are frequently presented in celebratory dishes as a symbol of good fortune because their long antennae is seen as a symbol of longevity. Once a year, the town of Hamajima gets together to appreciate this gift from the sea. Following a traditional ceremony at 2pm, upbeat music and festive jakoppe dancing begins at 3pm. From 4pm, the longevity Ise ebi soup will be available for a fee. After the sun sets, floats that replicate gigantic lobsters will join. The festival’s finale has everyone participating in the jakoppe dancing and fireworks light up the night sky.
