Jah Shaka returns to Japan this November! Born in Clarendon, Jamaica Jah Shaka got his start in music in London, England. His took his name from the Rastafarian word for God and the Zulu king Shaka Zulu. Starting his own sound system in the 70s, he quickly became one of the most popular in London. His influence has been widespread, not only in reggae and dub but also on post-punk musicians like PIL and The Slits. He appeared as himself in the cult classic film Babylon in 1980. In the 80s, as dancehall became the dominant style, Jah Shaka continued to produce dub influenced by Rastafarianism. In 1989, he returned to Jamaica to work with other dub legends like King Tubby. More recently, he was featured in the 2009 documentary about the All Tomorrow’s Parties festivals. He continues to be one of the most influential dub artists working today, playing regularly in London with occasional tours of Europe, the USA, and of course, Japan. Don’t miss your chance to see the legendary Jah Shaka on one of the best sound systems in the country!
