Kumano Hongu Taisha
Known for its rich cultural history, the Kumano Hongu Grand Shrine hosts its largest annual festival Reitai-sai every April. The event starts with yunobori shinji, a hot spring ritual where Shinto priests and children purify themselves in Yunomine hot spring, the oldest hot spring in Japan. The children are not allowed to set foot on the ground and are carried on the shoulders of the adults. The main procession is on the 15th as men carry portable shrines adorned with flowers, which is said to please the gods.
