Kyoto, Various Locations
The fifth annual Kyotographie International Photography Festival is being held at traditional and contemporary venues around the city. This four-week event includes 14 separate exhibitions centered around this year’s theme: LOVE. Humanity manifests a range of expressions inspired by feelings we refer to as love, which vary according to our backgrounds and environments. These differences have the potential to cause conflict, morphing love into hate and culminating in violence, murder, and war. In spite of our differences and the risks involved in forming deep connections with others, humans share a common craving for love so vital to our survival that we seek it out perpetually. Visitors to Kyotographie will be afforded many opportunities to examine and analyze the theme of love through the works of photographers such as Raphael Dallaporta, Robert Mapplethorpe, and Isabel Muñoz, presented in beautiful and creatively designed environments.
