The first Masaaki Yamada retrospective exhibition, six years after his death, is showcasing “Work (1956–1995),” his longest and most voluminous series. As a painter, Yamada’s style morphed over time, but always remained simple and minimalistic. Richly colored patterns of stripes, grids, and crosses characterize most of these works.
