The Record of Miraculous Events is Japan’s oldest collection of Buddhist stories and contains multiple tales dating from the 5th to 9th centuries. These stories are based on the concept of karmic retribution, the idea that good deeds bring good fortune while evil deeds lead to misfortune and damnation. This solo exhibition features works created under the theme of evil retribution, with vivid characters that materialize lessons historically passed through the ages via oral tradition.
