Sigur Ros is an Icelandic post-rock band from Reykjavík, who have been active since 1994. They released their debut album Von in 1997 and had a breakthrough with their second album A Good Beginning (translated from the Icelandic title). Known for their ethereal sound, frontman Jónsi’s falsetto vocals, and the use of bowed guitar, the band’s music is also noticeable for its incorporation of classical and minimalist aesthetic elements – qualities that have landed them features on the soundtracks of a number of television shows and movies. Their hypnotic, almost trance-inducing sound provides for an amazing live show experience, as one fan has testified on the band’s website: “A wonderfully hedonistic experience – they did things to parts of my brain that I didn’t even know existed.”
