Wakayama
May 30 - Sep 10
The Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama
One of the main aims of the medium of painting since its inception more than 30,000 years ago has been to tell stories. Many of the best illustrative works throughout history were created within the context of an underlying narrative, and include characters and moments filled with action and emotion, all unified in a single powerful image. For its summer collection exhibition, The Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama has chosen to focus on the stories of creation behind some 100 works by 30 different artists. Viewers are guided toward answers to questions surrounding the events that inspired the images, the ideas that formed the basis of their themes, and how those ideas are conveyed.
