Rudolph II was Holy Roman Emperor, King of Hungary, Croatia, and Bohemia, and Archduke of Austria during the 16th and 17th centuries. He was also known as an influential collector and patron of Northern Mannerist art, often reported to sit and stare for hours on end at new acquisitions. He contributed to the European art scene by gathering, commissioning, and carefully cataloging classical and contemporary paintings, writings, crafts, artifacts, flora, and fauna from around the world throughout the course of his life. This exhibition presents work from Giuseppe Arcimboldo and other artists under the patronage of Rudolph II. Guests are invited to this time-honored selection of works from the one of the most impressive European art collections in all of history.
