Kobe City Koiso Memorial Museum of Art
In celebration of the 25th anniversary of the venue’s opening, the Kobe City Koise Memorial Museum of Art presents a retrospective exhibition of works by Takeji Fujishima, the famous Japanese master of modern Western oil painting. Born in Kagoshima in 1867, Fujishima first studied traditional Japanese painting before moving to Tokyo to learn techniques employed by European artists. From 1905 to 1910 he traveled through Europe, honing his craft before returning to Japan to become a professor at the Tokyo Art School and a member of the Imperial Art Academy. This exhibition focuses on oil paintings created by Fujishima throughout the entire span of his career, in addition to drawings and various graphic design materials.
