Online event
Young ladies in their summer kimono fill the town during this religious festival, which grew out of the custom for young women to pray at temples for their ideal match. Typically, Hoe-kago – decorative palanquins carrying specially selected girls, who will later take part in a beauty contest at the temple – will parade through the streets. This year the festival and the contest, which usually takes place at Aizendo Temple in Osaka, will be moved online. Livestreaming events will take place during the three day-event and participants can enter the beauty contest by uploading a picture of themselves wearing a yukata and use the hashtag #愛染娘2020 to participate. Illustrations of Yukata are also welcomed.
