Kyoto Art Center & Nijo Castle

The Culture City of East Asia project was created to give viewers a chance to experience the depth of East Asian culture through its various art forms in hopes of contributing to a more peaceful and harmonious global society. This year’s festival features the works of 25 artists from Japan, China, and South Korea, including Yayoi Kusama, Jeonghwa Choi, and Guo-Qiang Cai alongside a number of local Kyoto-based artists. Around 80 percent of the pieces featured were made specifically for this event. The main venue is Nijo Castle, a renowned World Heritage Site. Artworks will be displayed throughout the expansive grounds of the castle, including its towers, moat, and kitchen.
