Scottish indie-rock band Franz Ferdinand, named after Archduke Franz Ferdinand whose assassination in 1914 sparked events that would lead to the outbreak of World War I, made its commercial breakthrough with the hit single Take Me Out from the self-titled 2004 debut album.
The band has not been prolific in terms of album releases; this year, 14 years after its debut, it released only its fifth album, Always Ascending. This album is the band’s first to feature new member Julian Corrie (keyboards, guitar, backing vocals), who joined after founding member Nick McCarthy left the group last year. The touring band also features another new member in guitarist Dino Bardot (Bardot does not appear on the new album). Look out for the Japanese version of the new album which features the bonus track Demagogue.
