Music and visual art both serve as means of expressing the inner feelings of their creators, who craft them to appeal to our senses of hearing and sight, respectively. These two mediums have maintained a deep reciprocal connection throughout history, with one inspiring or influencing the making of the other. The inception of graphic design, one of modern society’s most prolific artistic channels, dates back to 19th century Europe when the development of mass society awakened a need for mass communication. In response, artists began producing posters to generate publicity for different purposes, including the advertisement of live shows and revues held at music halls and theaters. This exhibition introduces graphic design posters that relate in some way to music. Visitors will witness a blended relationship between seeing and hearing, and gain insight into how artists convey the energy of music visually.
