Hot Chip is an English synth-pop band formed in London in 2000. The group consists of multi-instrumentalists Alexis Taylor, Joe Goddard, Al Doyle, Owen Clarke, and Felix Martin. Primarily producing music in the synth-pop and alternative dance genres while drawing influences from house and disco, the band initially began as a simple hobby recording project between school friends Taylor and Goddard. Their debut studio album through Moshi Moshi Records (named after the Japanese word for “hello” when answering the telephone) was 2004’s Coming On Strong, which received mixed reviews. This year, Hot Chip released a seventh studio album A Bath Full of Ecstasy. Songwriters Goddard and Taylor began writing the album in 2017 while contributing to songs for Katy Perry. One song Into Me You See went onto Perry’s album Witness, while two others—Spell and Echo—were re-worked for A Bath Full of Ecstasy.
