Kyoto
Nov 2 - Nov 3
Himeji Castle Sannomaru Park
A “life-size” {shogi} (Japanese chess) competition unfolds by replacing {koma} (chess pieces) with people dressed as samurai kings, knights, and other respective ranks. Professional shogi masters command the human {koma} to move. It is said that a similar style of gaming took place in the 16th century when samurai Hideyoshi reigned the area. Other shogi-related events take place in the morning and afternoon.
