Omijingu Shrine

Shrine maids in ceremonial kimono perform karuta, a traditional Japanese game between two or more people who fight over cards, to please the god of Omijingu. In karuta, cards scribed with Japanese poetry are laid out on a grid. As a reciter reads out the first half of the poem, the competitors reach for the card that contains the latter half of the poem. The one who has the most cards at the end is the winner.
