In addition to housing one of the best collections of hard-to-find ambient and experimental music, Tobira Records (run by Hakobune) hosts monthly label showcases, focusing on the quieter side of Japan’s electronic music scene, starting with Editions Zeroso in November, and continuing with Nara-based cassette label Muzan Editions in December. For the past 3 years, Muzan has been quietly releasing tapes from some of the foremost ambient artists from Japan and around the globe, and this showcase promises to display some of that talent, with performances by Kobe’s Hirotaka Shirotsubaki, Muzan label-head Endurance, Phinery’s Gaapiiiii, and Tobira’s in-house secret weapon, Ninja. If you’re looking to enjoy the calmer and more pensive side of electronic music this winter, this is definitely an event to check out.
