Kasuga Shrine

The On-Matsuri is a festival held at Wakamiya Shrine, which stands in the precincts of the Kasuga Taisha, one of the oldest shrines in Japan. Historic pageantry lasts for four days to celebrate the deity of the shrine. On the 17th, the grand parade—Owatari-shiki—featuring thousands of participants in traditional costumes starts at noon. In the afternoon after the parade, various performances with traditional music and dance will be staged near the Nara National Museum until late.
