The iconic Osaka Castle Park will play host to the Osaka Castle Triathlon 2017 on the last Sunday of the month. Triathletes will for the first time use an Osaka Castle moat – the Higashi-Sotobori moat – for the swimming leg of the international competition. The standard course distance is 51.5km and includes a 1.5km fresh water swim in the moat, a 40km bike course on flat roads around the park and past the high-rise buildings of Osaka Business Park, and a 10km runing course which includes a good view of the castle. The sprint course distance is a 750m swim, a 20km ride, and 5km run. Also known as the Triathlon Asian Cup, the race has been held every summer since 2012, with around 700 athletes competing every year.
