Japanese pop duo Yumi Yoshimura and Ami Onuki started out after being scouted by a Sony-affiliated agency in the mid-90s. They have released around 20 albums (including compilations) and are popular not just in Japan but globally (especially in the U.S.). The band gained mainstream success in Japan in 1998 following the release of their Jet album and tour. Their first release Asia no Junshin sold a million records, and their success has continued with several more full-length releases. As “Puffy-mania” took off, the pair became multimedia stars, including hosting their own weekly TV show Pa-Pa-Pa-Pa-Puffy featuring guests such as Lenny Kravitz, Sylvester Stallone, Harrison Ford, and rock band Garbage.
The duo is doing a special seven-date tour of Kansai called the Chokeru Tour (chokeru meaning hyped up, psyched, excited) as Yumi Yoshimura is a Kansai girl. The tour will take them through Osaka, Kyoto, Hyogo, Wakayama, Nara, and Shiga.
