Hirose Shrine

This unique religious event hosts a fierce sand fight occurs between visitors and shrine workers dressed as a peasant and a cow. The sand-throwing is accompanied by the beat of a taiko drum and it is believed that the harder participants fight, the more rain will fall during the year. Be sure to wear goggles and keep your camera in a plastic bag for protection.
