Karasaki Shrine, Shiga

Adjacent to Lake Biwa, Karasaki Shrine hosts the Tezutsu Handheld Fireworks ceremony. This is a rare opportunity to see the handheld fireworks in action. The performers hold bamboo cylinders with gunpowder stuffed inside which is ignited as sparks shoot up in the night sky like pillars of fire. During the day, various ceremonies relating to the summer purification will be held. The Tezutsu Handheld Fireworks starts at 8pm.
