Kotoshironushi Shrine & Surroundings

Every third Sunday of September, a water festival to pray for good fortune and a plentiful fishing season takes place in Awaji Island. After the festival floats assemble around the shrine, boys carry the floats around the neighborhood as observers on the sidewalk splash water at them. As if that wasn’t enough, the parading members jump into the ocean carrying the floats for a fully hydrated finale.
