Kifune Shrine

To pray for abundant rain and harvest, a rain ceremony and an offering are dedicated to Takaokaminokami, the god of rain and water. Due to its location, Kifune Shrine is situated near the water source for Kamo River that runs through Kyoto City. Hence, the shrine’s presence is deeply tied with water since the Heian period. In recent years, the rain ceremony has added a contemporary twist as bells and drums are incorporated in the ritual.
