American experimental-rock group Battles, founded in 2002 in New York City, is currently made up of only guitarist and keyboardist Ian Williams and drummer John Stanier. The group, until earlier this year, was a trio, but having lost guitarist of 16 years Dave Konopka, they have played on as a duo and will soon release their new album Juice B Crypts under this format. Speaking about the new album, Ian Williams told online music magazine Pitchfork that it’s “about chord progressions, resolutions, returning home. Take that and throw it into a blender of modern electronic tools like glitching devices, or use melodic lines and take them and regurgitate them and pulverize the traditional stuff but at the same time try and retain harmonic relationships while completely smashing them up.” One track even features a guest spot from YES vocalist Jon Anderson.
