Daigoji Temple

As part of the Godairiki-San ceremony, participants attempt to please the deity of the temple by lifting a gigantic two-layered kagami-mochi (rice cake). Male participants will carry 150kg and females 90kg on a large stage constructed in front of the main hall. As the crowds cheer, each participant challenges the record of holding the mochi as long as possible. Those wishing to participate should register at the temple between 9am and 11:30am on the day of the festival.
