Sagawa Art Museum

Hiroshige Utagawa (1797-1858) was one of Japan’s most renowned ukiyo-e painters and widely considered to be the last great master of the artform. His focus was unusual for the genre, turning to landscapes and scenes of regular life rather than beautiful women or stars of the theater. His talent extended beyond Japan, most notably influencing impressionists. The exhibition shows a wide array of the artist’s work, including his landscape series Tokaido Gotoku Sanji (The Fifty-Three Stations of the Tokaido), one of his most famous works.
