Sanbouji Temple

Conducted on the hottest day of the year, the Midsummer Day of the Ox, this prayer ceremony is held to remedy summer maladies. Participants wear a ceramic plate called a houroku on their heads, which is adorned with Buddhist scripture. Moxa (dried medicinal herb) is placed on top which is burned during the ceremony.

Please take COVID-19 preventative measures by wearing a mask and bringing handwash with you.
