Born in London, England to a Taiwanese mother and British father, Kamaal Williams’ first instrument as a school kid was the drums. He quickly became interested in jazz, funk, and house music before discovering garage and grime.
Williams later moved on to keyboards, studied music production at college, and went on to release electronic tunes under the name Henry Wu.
Three years ago, the instrumentalist and producer got together with drummer Yussef Dayes and released the album Black Focus under the name Yussef Kamaal. The two only released one album and Williams last year released his first album under his own name titled The Return. It was recorded in just a week and in the house in which he grew up in South London. It went on to be nominated for Independent Album of the Year at the 2018 AIM Independent Music Awards.
