This exhibition marks 1300 years since the establishment of Saikoku Sanjusansho, or the 33 Pilgrimage Sites of Western Japan, a pilgrimage throughout Kansai of thirty-three Buddhist temples. Each temple features an image of Kannon, otherwise known as the Bodhisattva of Compassion. This exhibit features numerous artifacts related to the worship of Kannon including paintings and statues in her likeness, as well as sutras, talismans and national treasures from the sacred sites.
