Formed in 2014, the American indie trio LANY is an acronym for Los Angeles New York. Last year, the band put out their self-titled debut album while they were busy on the live circuit with festivals in Australia and Asia, and tours of both the US and Europe. The band, made up of guitarist Les Preist, drummer Jake Goss, and singer and keyboardist Paul Klein, has been called “part of a new wave of musicians redefining what it means to make music in a world driven more by Spotify plays than by moving physical copies.”
It does seem that that is the way that music is heading and more and more bands are embracing the shift as opposed to stubbornly holding on to the traditional idea that a band lives or dies by its record company sales figures. Lany could well be a new band that opens the door to others in the world of social media music marketing.
