Thirteen magnificent hikiyama floats and host performances of karakuri ningyo – Japanese mechanical puppets. Often described as ‘moving museums,’ the richly decorated hikiyama, with their valuable fabric, golden carvings, and lacquerworks, are themselves alone worth coming to see.
