Ken Takakura, affectionately referred to by audiences as “Ken-san,” was an immensely popular Japanese actor and singer who appeared in over 200 films throughout his career. He won the Japan Academy Prize for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role four times, more than any other actor in history. This multimedia exhibition takes a look back at Takakura’s film acting career by examining his work with other revered artists and directors, including Tadanori Yokoo and Daido Moriyama. On display are scenes extracted from all 205 of Takakura’s films presented alongside rare items owned by the actor such as scripts and props, as well as still photographs, posters, and press sheets.
