Shirahama Beach

Every summer, amateur teams assemble to compete in the sand sculpture contest that takes place at the picturesque Shirahama Beach. Watch teams create gigantic sculptures solely made of sand that depict anything from famous landmarks to recognizable regional characters. The competition itself will take place from dawn until around noon 12pm followed by an awards ceremony announcing the competition’s winners. Visitors are free to view both during and after the competition. Experience Wakayama’s finest beach one step ahead of the summer crowds.
