Senbon Enma-do (Injo-ji), Kyoto
The Senbon Enma-do, a temple that enshrines Enma (judges of the world after death), annually hosts Enma-do’s Nenbutsu Kyogen performances which are registered as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. Nenbutsu Kyogen is a traditional comic play that was conceived as a means to communicate Buddhist thought to the common people. This year there is a total of seven shows: 7pm on May 1, and 1pm & 6pm on May 2, 3 & 4. Each performance will last about 30 minutes and will include four to seven Kyogen pieces.
