Shimoniikawa Shrine

In this unique and often humorous festival, two men who have been selected from the public wear traditional costumes to prepare crucian carp as an offering. Using a pair of iron chopsticks and a knife, both men must remain synchronous during the preparation. If they make mistakes, the senior members of the festival heckle and help them through the cutting process. Here, the heckling is seen as a form of encouragement and is one of the attractions of this festival.
