Tchavolo Schmitt first took up the guitar when he was just six years old. Learning and developing in the manouche (gypsy jazz) style, by the time he had turned 25 in 1979 he had become a full-time musician. It wasn’t until the early 90s, though, that Schmitt’s career got going in earnest after he joined the band Gypsy Reunion with other gypsy jazz legends, Dorado Schmitt, Patrick Saussois, and Gino Reinhardt.
The year 2000 saw the release of his first solo album Alors?…Voilà!, and he has continued to record and perform solo and with others since. Tchavolo Schmitt is considered to be one of the most talented and purest heirs of Django Reinhardt in the gypsy jazz guitar genre and really takes the guitar in this field to another level.
