Each frame of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ films, which have captivated the hearts and minds of viewers for nearly 90 years, begins as a conceptual sketch born in the mind of an artist. This exhibition examines the moments when Disney’s most iconic still images were brought to life through the process of animation and the innovative technology that made this possible over the years. Through nearly 500 original artworks, sketches, and conceptual creations, viewers will witness a timeline covering the animation process of a number of famous Disney stories, starting with Steamboat Willie (1928), that introduced Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and finishing with studios’ latest film, Moana (2016).
