Yokoo Tadanori Museum of Contemporary Art
Yokoo Tadanori, born in 1936, has been hailed as one of Japan’s greatest 20th-century graphic designers. Yokoo began his printmaking career in 1968 creating posters for underground theater productions in a style infused with creative imagery and vibrant hues. Throughout his tenure, he has created some 230 original prints. This exhibition combines the concept of “hanga”, a term that refers to extraordinary printed works, with “jungle,” hinting at the wild and enveloping diversity of Yokoo’s canon. Guests will experience an opportunity to consider Yokoo’s contemporary opposition to artistic modernism, a movement that focused greatly on logic and thought. This exhibition also explores the possibilities of the future of printmaking as an artistic medium.
