Kobe-based sculptor Yuki Tsukiyama bases the forms and motifs of his works on the inherent characteristics of the materials he uses to create them, such as wood, paint, metal, and resin. His tenacity and patience allow him to create complex sculptures through a series of repetitive acts. For this solo exhibition, Tsukiyama has taken pieces of 45mm-squared timber painstakingly carved with a hand saw and arranged them in cross sections within a circular form. The result is a shape representing the rings of a great tree, conveying a great flow of time that lies beyond the limits of human comprehension.
