Named after the William S. Burroughs book {The Soft Machine}, this band was one of the central groups in England’s 60’s Canterbury Scene and have remained a major influence on the progressive-rock, jazz-fusion scene. Over the years there have been several lineups, a hiatus, and members using variants on the name (Soft Ware, Soft Machine Legacy, and Soft Works). The current lineup on the band’s farewell tour of Japan includes drummer John Marshall, bassist Roy Babbington, guitarist John Etheridge, and on saxophone, flute, and piano Theo Travis. The band will also be joined by pianist and drummer Gary Husband.
