This exhibit of a wide array of art and artifacts from the Imperial Palace collection is to commemorate the 2019 enthronement of Emperor Naruhito and the beginning of the Reiwa Era. The show includes pieces from the original imperial palace in Kyoto as well as masterworks from Tokyo’s Sannomaru Shozokan, or the Museum of the Imperial Collections, many of which are shown outside of Tokyo for the first time. Among the exhibits are furniture pieces from Kyoto’s Imperial Palace, painted fusuma sliding doors and calligraphic scrolls, as well as kimono and special ceremonial wear worn by members of the royal family. 17th-century masterworks from the proponents of the Rinpa School, including Tawaraya Sotatsu and Ogata Korin, are also on display.
