Abeno Harukas Art Museum

This exhibit focuses on the work of Atsuhiko Misawa, one of Japan’s most notable contemporary wood carvers. He is best known for his “animals” series, which has toured most of Japan and can now be enjoyed with a sweeping view of Osaka from the 16th floor of Abeno Harukas. Misawa began carving the series in 2000; it comprises various life-sized animal figures carved from camphor wood and painted with oils. Ranging from house pets to unicorns, the colorful sculptures will capture the imaginations of young and old alike. Originally from Kyoto, Misawa now creates his fantastical sculptures at his studio in Kanagawa.
